Why Do I Feel Bad After Therapy?

It's common to feel unsettled or emotionally drained after a therapy session. Therapy often involves delving into difficult and sometimes painful emotions and memories. This process can stir up feelings of treatment you may not have been fully aware of or prepared to confront. Additionally, therapy requires a lot of mental and emotional energy, which can leave you feeling exhausted.

It's important to recognize that feeling bad after therapy doesn't mean that therapy isn't working or that you're not making progress. In fact, it can be a sign that you're doing the deep, necessary work of healing. Allow yourself some time to process the emotions that come up during your sessions. Self-care practices such as journaling, taking a walk, or engaging in a relaxing activity can help you manage these feelings.

If you find that these feelings are overwhelming or persist for a long time, consider discussing them with your therapist. They can help you understand why you might be experiencing these emotions and work with you to develop strategies to cope with them. Remember, experiencing a range of emotions is a natural part of the therapeutic journey, and it's okay to seek support when you need it.
